Louisiana General Contractor Commercial (NASCLA)


This package includes everything you need to pass the NASCLA trades exam. NASCLA is the National Association of State Contractor Licensing Agencies. One trades exam fulfills the trades exam requirement for 16 member states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.


The NASCLA Accredited Contractor Examination was created to improve the quality of construction examinations and enable the mobility of contractors across jurisdictions This is the first major step towards a national contractors license exam. Applicants take accredited examinations in addition to meeting other licensure requirements.

This exam will also serve as your trades exam for Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia

Louisiana Commercial General Contractor Requirements & Application

The LSLBC regulates commercial, industrial and residential contractors who bid or perform construction projects with a value of:

  • $50,000 or more for commercial and industrial construction
  • In excess of $75,000 for residential construction
  • In excess of $10,000 for mechanical, electrical or plumbing
  • Exceeding $7,500 but not in excess of $75,000 for home improvement
  • $1 or more for mold remediation
  • You must have financial statement with a minimum net worth of $10,000 or a $10,000 Bank line of credit or $10,000 Surety Bond
  • No Insurance Required for Commercial Applications
  • The NASCLA exam can be used for Commercial in LA. If you have a Commercial License you can submit the Residential Application for the license. Based on having the Commercial License they will grant you the Residential License.
  • No Experience Requirements for the Commercial Applicant

    With this license you may bid on and build all types of buildings in LA. Commercial. To obtain the Residential license: After Completing your Commercial license submit a Residential Application. Based on holding a Commercial License a Residential License will be granted.
