A small commercial building contractor is authorized to bid on and contract for the construction, erection, alteration, repair or demolition of any building or structure for use and occupancy by the general public, including residential construction with more than 4 units, and greater than 3 stories in height with a monetary limit of $1,500,000. This limit was increased in April 2017.

Tennessee BC-b Small Commercial Contractor Exam Requirements & Application

A license is required when the total cost or contract amount is $25,000 or more.

Monetary limits for each license as follows:

* 10 times working capital OR 10 times net worth – whichever is LESS

* If the requested monetary limit is $3,000,000 or less, a reviewed financial statement is required.

* If the requested monetary limit is greater than $3,000,000 an audited financial statement is required.

Tennessee BC-b (Small Commercial Classification) is limited to a maximum monetary limit of $1,500,000.00 per a project.

* A license is not granted solely on meeting one requirement. All requirements must be met (exams, financials, experience, etc) and all information submitted is considered

Tennessee BC-b Small Commercial Contractor Permitted Work

A commercial building contractor is authorized to bid on and contract for the construction, erection, alteration, repair or demolition of any building or structure for use and occupancy by the general public, including residential construction with more than four (4) units or greater than three (3) stories in height. In addition, may perform any of the 34 building subcategories for "commercial". There is a monetary limit of $1,500,000 on all contracts with this license
