    NASCLA General Contractor Commercial

    This package includes everything you need to pass the NASCLA trades exam (State Business and Law Courses are optional). NASCLA is the National Association of State Contractor Licensing Agencies. One trades exam fulfills the trades exam requirement for 16 member states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

     

    The NASCLA Accredited Contractor Examination was created to improve the quality of construction examinations and enable the mobility of contractors across jurisdictions This is the first major step towards a national contractors license exam. Applicants take accredited examinations in addition to meeting other licensure requirements.

    This exam will also serve as your trades exam for Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia

  • You Must take and pass the Florida Business and Finance exam
  • You must take and complete the Florida Building Codes Course

    • The NASCLA Exam available to applicants applying for licensure as a Certified General Contractor, a Certified Building Contractor, or a Certified Residential Contractor.


    General Terms In general the term “contractor” means the person who is qualified for, and shall only be responsible for, the project contracted for and means, except as exempted in this part, the person who, for compensation, undertakes to, submits a bid to, or does himself or herself or by others construct, repair, alter, remodel, add to, demolish, subtract from, or improve any building or structure, including related improvements to real estate, for others or for resale to others; and whose job scope is substantially similar to the job scope described in one of the subsequent paragraphs of this subsection. For the purposes of regulation under this part, “demolish” applies only to demolition of steel tanks over 50 feet in height; towers over 50 feet in height; other structures over 50 feet in height, other than buildings or residences over three stories tall; and buildings or residences over three stories tall.

  • A “certified contractor” means any contractor who possesses a certificate of competency issued by the department and who shall be allowed to contract in any jurisdiction in the state without being required to fulfill the competency requirements of that jurisdiction. Certified contractors are designated by an occupation code which begins with the letter “C“.
  • A “registered contractor” means any contractor who has registered with the department pursuant to fulfilling the competency requirements in the jurisdiction for which the registration is issued. Registered contractors may contract only in such jurisdictions. Registered contractors are designated by an occupation code which begins with the letter “R“.
  • Applicant must meet one of the following methods of qualification:
    • Four year construction-related degree from an accredited college (equivalent to three years experience) and one year proven experience applicable to the category for which you are applying. (1) Definition of “construction-related degree”, a baccalaureate degree from an accredited 4-year college in the appropriate field of engineering, architecture, or building construction.
    • One year experience as a foreman and not less than three years of credits from accredited college-level courses.
    • One year experience as a worker, one year experience as a foreman, and two years of credits from accredited college-level courses.
    • Two years experience as a worker, one year experience as a foreman, and one year of credits from accredited college-level courses.
    • Four years experience as a worker or foreman of which at least one year must have been as a foreman

    Insurance Requirements:
    Minimum amounts required for General Liability insurance: General and Building Contractors - $300,000 public liability; $50,000 property damage
    All other categories - $100,000 public liability; $25,000 property damage

    The NASCLA exam serves as your trades exam in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia.

    Florida NASCLA Commercial Exam Permitted Work

    The NASCLA Exam is Accepted in Florida for Any Three Of The Certified Contractors License in the state. Based on your license specification you can either perform Commercial and Residential or Residential work. The size of Commercial projects allowed will depend on whether your hold a CGC or CBC License. CGC license can build commercial structures over 4 stories. CBC can build Commercial Structures Under Four Stories.
